April is Child Abuse Prevention! Here is a calendar with some family community events and trainings happening throughout the month. Please contact the Northern Michigan Alliance for Children with any questions.
Farwell Elementary students participated in a school wide project to build a community garden! Students were asked to share ways they are a part of their community or ways they can give back to their communities. Students identified they could pick up trash, help neighbors with yard work, offer to help those in need and make donations to the animal shelter. Three students were drawn out of a raffle to win a prize bag.

Farwell Elementary is Celebrating March is Reading Month by having some inspired dress up days for next week March 18th- March 22nd!
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Graders!
Farwell Elementary is proud to partner with Mid Michigan Big Brothers Big Sisters and together we are launching a Farwell Elementary Lunch Buddies program. Our students will have the opportunity to be paired with a mentor at the school during their lunch and recess periods and will meet with their Lunch Buddy once per week! We are currently working with the Farwell High School (including their National Honor Society students) to provide mentors for our students. This is an exciting program and if you would like your student to have a Lunch Buddy, please let us know by calling the Elementary office 989-588-9916 and we will send home a sign-up sheet with your student! The first 10 to respond will be matched as soon as possible and all others will be placed on a list to be matched as soon as we find them a mentor.
Farwell Elementary Book Fair is Next Week!
The fair will run before and after school March 11-15, as well as during the Masked Reader Reveal Event on March 14 at 5:30pm.

On Friday, February 24th, Smokey Bear came and visited our second grade students. During the visit Smokey Bear and presenter Jason from the DNR brought a Smokey Bear book to read. The students really enjoyed the experience!

Congratulations to our January Elementary students of the month!
Please join us in congratulating one of our own Derek Plichta. He was involved in a state competition for writing an essay for the VFW. Today he was announced as the winner of the State of Michigan Patriot Pen Competition. To honor this accomplishment we ask that if you are able to come there will be a parade held at 3pm on E Main Street. Derek and his family will drive through and we can cheer him on for this awesome accomplishment.
