It was a special day at Farwell High School! Seniors Jaiden Sharrow and Olivia Bass were surprised in their dual enrollment COM101 class and awarded Laker Distinction Scholarships from Mid Michigan College. Both girls plan to pursue their Nursing Degree at MID. Jaiden, the daughter of Charles and Angela Sharrow, earned the Laker Distinction Presidential Scholarship which covers 62 college credit hours (approx. 2 years) and a $500 book/supplies stipend. She is a high honors student and is a member of NHS, Class Council, Student Council, YAC, FCA, and Concert Band. She is a triple-threat athlete participating in Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball. She is employed at the Whitehouse Restaurant in Clare. Olivia, the daughter of Gene and Carrie Bass, earned the Laker Distinction Scholarship which covers 31 college credit hours (approx. 1 year). She has also earned a Mid Michigan College Lakers' Softball Scholarship. She is a high honors student and is a member of NHS, Class Council, Student Council, Concert Band, and MID's PTK. She is a four-year veteran in volleyball and softball and plays travel ball for the Mt. Pleasant Drillers. She is employed at SnowSnake in Harrison.
To give some background on the LDS, over 700 students submitted initial applications and resumes. These were judged, and applicants were selected to submit a creative project representing themselves and what they could contribute to MID. After these items were scored, finalists were invited back again to interview with various MID personnel and former LDS winners. This would determine 2 Laker Distinction Presidential Awards for 62 credit hours and a $500 book/supply stipend and 4 Laker Distinction Scholarships for 31 credit hours.
Jaiden Sharrow won the Presidential 62 credit hour scholarship and Olivia won the 31 credit hour scholarship.
It’s so exciting to see the surprise on the girls’ faces and the absolute joy of accomplishing one of their many goals! Today was a great day! Proud to be an Eagle!
